Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish,
The Feast of Corpus Christi (The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ) is fast approaching. It is a powerful celebration of the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Unfortunately, some very influential national surveys have revealed the startling decline of the USA Catholic Community’s belief in the Real Presence. To address this dilemma, the US Catholic Bishops have designated a three-year Eucharistic Revival. A time for prayer and renewal in our understanding of the treasured gift of Eucharistic Presence of Jesus. The Revival consists of three phases. The first Phase has been completed. Now, beginning June 11, 2023 to July 17, 2024 will be the parish phase. The culminating event will a National Eucharistic Congress to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Therefore, each parish in the Archdiocese will participate in their own unique way with the Revival. We will kick-off our participation with a Holy Hour of Adoration of the Holy Eucharist and Benediction on Sunday June 11 at 3:00 p.m. at St. James Church. Please be reminded that we have other regular opportunities for Adoration: The first Thursday of each month after the 8:00 a.m. Mass. Also, there is a faithful group who gather each week on Thursdays at St. James at 3:00 p.m. in the adoration chapel.
Also, during the year there will be special educational opportunities about The Eucharist coordinated by our very own Deacon Michael Ward…watch for the information in the bulletin and on our social media platforms and digital newsletter. Also, we will be providing educational materials (to all age groups) and special homilies throughout the year. For your own educational and inspirational purposes, be sure to check out www.eucharisticrevival.org.
And now I quote from the Bishops’ document “Behold, I Make All Things New”:
“Our world is hurting. We all need healing, yet many of us are separated from the very source of our strength. Jesus Christ invites us to return to the source and summit of our faith in the celebration of the Eucharist. The National Eucharistic Revival is a movement to restore understanding and devotion to this great mystery here in the United States by helping us renew our worship of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.”
Peace and blessings!
