Come Holy Spirit, Plant Sale, Register for Bible Camp, and more...

May 23, 2023

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish,

With the celebration of Pentecost, we have traveled on a ninety-day journey since Ash Wednesday. Throughout Lent we watched for signposts in the Scriptures directing our hearts toward God. At Easter we committed (some of us for the first time and the rest of us once again) to our journey of faith in the risen Christ. As we journeyed through the weeks of Easter, Jesus continually beckoned us to remain close and promised to give us the Holy Spirit. The Spirit will bind us to one another and to God.

The promised gift of the Holy Spirit is affirmed on Pentecost. Before the Gospel we will acclaim, “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love.” The gifts of the Holy Spirit—wisdom, understanding, counsel, strength, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord—assure us that God is cultivating and nurturing us to life within him. We carry the Holy Spirit within us and radiate that Spirit to all we meet. With the Spirit dwelling within us, we are always close to God. On Pentecost this truth of our faith is celebrated!

Take time this week to note the gifts of the Holy Spirit that you depend upon the most. Pray for a strengthening of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to help you on your daily walk as a disciple of the risen Christ. Come Holy Spirit!

Congratulations to our

First Eucharist Candidates

We congratulate and ask God's blessings on the children who received the Eucharist for the first time last weekend. We pray that Jesus, the Bread of Life and Cup of Eternal Salvation, will always nourish your faith and you grow in your knowledge and love of him. God bless you all!

Stay Tuned Next Week for a Gallery of Pictures from First Communion

We are most pleased and excited to announce the introduction of a brand new ministry for children at our parish! Beginning this Fall, the Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLW) will be held on the first Sunday of every month at 11:00 a.m. Mass on the St. James campus, with a pilot CLW being launched on Sunday, June 4.

CLW invites children from Kindergarten age to Grade 5 to be called from the main assembly at Mass during the Liturgy of the Word to hear and reflect upon the readings and Gospel at their developmentally appropriate age level.

The liturgy matches that of the main assembly using the Lectionary for Children. A "reflection" is given by the presider (Minister of the Word) in place of the homily. The children then return to the main assembly prior to the start of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

As with any new ministry, your help is needed! Please consider becoming a Presider (Minister of the Word) or help with "gatekeeping." We will provide you with both the necessary resources and training. Your commitment could be as little as twice a year! Please call (860-529-1274) or email the Faith Formation Office (reo@sjbrh.org) if you are interested in serving in any capacity! It is such a rewarding ministry.

Thank you and see you all on Sunday, June 4! Blessings to all.
